Stephan Imper

Stephan Imper MD
Ophthalmologist FMH, eye surgery

After graduating from high school in Basel (type B Matura qualification), I studied medicine and passed the state medical exam in 1996. At the same time the University of Basel awarded me a doctorate for my dissertation on inflammations of the eye. Between 1998 and 2002 I trained to become a specialist in ophthalmology recognized by the Swiss Medical Association (FMH) at the Eye Hospital at Cantonal Hospital Lucerne and Basel University Eye Hospital, followed by postgraduate medical training at Stanford University in California. I then joined the ÓMMA group practice in Zurich as an ophthalmologist. I completed post-graduate training in ophthalmic surgery in the ophthalmological group practice and day hospital run by P. Bucher MD in Frauenfeld, at the Vista eye hospital in Binningen, and at Cantonal Hospital Liestal; I held the post of senior physician in Binningen and Liestal.

I became self-employed in 2008 (taking over the practice run by Dr. D. Haldimann in Muttenz), and since then have been operating as an affiliated ophthalmic surgeon at the Vista eye hospital in Binningen. In 2012 I opened a second office in Muttenz, and in 2015 the company became the Augenzentrum Muttenz-Pratteln GmbH (a limited liability company). In 2016 I merged my business with the ophthalmological practice run by R. Bittel MD in Pratteln. The ophthalmological day hospital opened with its own operating theater at the existing site at St. Jakob-Strasse 34 in Muttenz in February 2019. In March 2020 the Pratteln office was relocated to the Aquila tower at Bahnhofplatz 1 and expanded. This ophthalmological day hospital now has its own operating theater too. In addition to my mother tongue, German, I speak English fluently plus French and Italian.

Memberships: FMH (Swiss Medical Association), VSAO (Association of Swiss Residents and Senior Physicians), SOG (Swiss Ophthalmology Society), BSOC (Professional Association of Swiss Ophthalmic Surgeons), AABB (Ophthalmologists’ Society of Both Basel Cantons), ESCRS and ASCRS (European and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons), AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology)
