Caterina von Weissenfluh MD
FEBO (Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology)
I graduated from a high school in Bern that specializes in math and science, and in 2003 began to study medicine at the University of Bern, where I passed the state medical exam in 2009 with the second-best grade. At the same time I was awarded a doctorate for my dissertation on cardiovascular surgery. I began my residency in internal medicine, where I gained a broad grounding in general medicine, and then moved to Inselspital in Bern, where I started to train as a specialist in ophthalmology. I completed my specialist training at Basel University Eye Hospital. I was promoted to senior physician in Basel in 2015. I qualified as a specialist in ophthalmology in Paris the same year, and was awarded the Swiss specialist title (FMH) and the European specialist title (FEBO). I won the Alfred Vogt Trainee Award for the best Swiss specialist exam of my year.
During the following years as a senior physician at Basel University Eye Hospital I was able to acquire further knowledge and experience, with a special emphasis on pediatric ophthalmology, general ophthalmology with emergencies, and referrals at Basel University Hospital.
I have enjoyed working at the Muttenz-Pratteln ophthalmological center since April 2019. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to make specific and responsible use of my medical knowledge and experience in the daily care of our patients. In addition to my mother tongue, German, I speak English, French and Italian.
